Hooker Winslow –Hooker is the youngest in the Winslow family, the little one, the baby, whatever you want to call it. He is never with anybody, always alone either burying dead rats and birds, in which his cats kill, or talking to his caretaker, Iris. Hooker feels as if he is not respected by all of the adults in his family. Nobody tells him anything because they do not think he will understand because he is only 11 years old.
Gilbert Winslow- Gilbert is Hooker’s 22-year-old, university dropout,
alcoholic brother who smokes all day. Gilbert has got a lot to say to everyone
but nobody cares to listen to him.
Jessica Winslow- Jessica is Hooker and Gilbert's mother. After having
a miscarriage, she starts to hate her kids, and whole family.
Nicholas Winslow- Nicholas, also known as “Nicky”, is Hooker and Gilbert’s father. Nicky is a businessman in Toronto and is the worst possible father figure you could find, does not have any authority on his kids.
Rosetta Winslow- Rosetta is Nicholas' sister, she is the parent in the house because Jessica and Nicholas have failed to act as parents. She spends a lot of her time in her office where she is surrounded by pictures of her dead relatives.
Iris Browne- Iris is the family caretaker who has been with the
Winslow’s for 30 years now. She is the only one who has a real relationship
with Hooker, the only one who listens to him and takes his opinions into
considerations. She has a strong relationship with Hooker, but to the rest of
the family she is just a servant.
